Exciting times for the Modular. Amazing how things have moved on and how they just keep moving. Great to see the endless possibilities and rules being brokes with creation of electronic music.

[1990] Rhythm Doctor - Phuture

My inspirational DJ friend and creative Scott Hallam just left this comment on his Facebook Page.  This is such an incredible record - lovingly created by  Christopher Long  using elements from Phuture - We Are Phuture & Slam, Art of Noise - Love - it really is a masterpiece and in my all time top 3 records. I first heard this on the 808 State show and was straight down to Eastern Bloc the next day to get it. 1990 was a great year for discovering loads of great clubs, music and I nominate one of my record buying partners in crime from that era  Carpdiem Andy Macgregor . Indeed I was and still am a vinyl junkie, listening to this song till I go to the grave, and when I am 6ft under. Listen to this in honor of potential, creatividad, and endless possibilty.  This record I confirm helped drive and motivate Scott Hallam, James Leyland Kirby and myself to push the creative enevelope.  So ahead of our time, as was this record.  Music shapes the future, and this Phuture is not and never

Richie Hawtin drops a MINUS classic you've probably never heard before!!

It´s great to see Richie Hawtin play a big hands in the air cheesy classic. Just look at Richies face here, he is loving it. We believe as many do, that he is showing his true color here. In a recent interview Richie Hawtin talked about how he finally wanted to take a big risk and that after being a techno producer it was time to play some of his favourite tracks and show the world what he listens too at home. Barbie Girl and Richie Hawtin go together like strawberrys and cream. Mixmag said they have never seen Richie Hawtin look so happy when he dropped a record, and looking at his reaction above, it seems clear that he was having the time of his life. The 90´s Boiler Room boys, really done a great job of capturing this epic dance floor moment, we hope this goes down in history. You can watch more DJ´s doing the same and following Richie Hawtins new method breaking cheesy 90´s anthems on the official 90´s Boiler Room Youtube page. Just follow the link above.

Burt Bacharach - Something Big

Are you living for something big? I always was, and I still am. Now I want it more than ever.

Stina Nordenstam - I See You Again.

Another track from the very same tape I have been listening too all day. Another misty track, washed under the waves, and given very little light. Gems, gems, gold, and memory, locked into a 90min tape.

(((IEMN))) John Beltran - Sub-Surface - R&S Records 1995 - Ambient

Listening to some mix tapes from as far back as 1996, this track came on, Incredible that I was playing this so long ago, and still here on Youtube it only has 67 views. An underscovered Cafe Del Mar gem, that never made it to Ibiza, nor to anyones ears. Shame, a lost gem.

Vikki Carr - The Silencers

Oh a gun can be a .22 Or a .38 and it will silence you Dear sir, that is a silencer But if you should see a lady Who has the kind of waist that measures 22 And she's 38 where it is great to measure 38 Dear sir, she is a silencer Dear sir, I'm her I don't use a knife, don't need a gun My equipment is a lot more deadly, son Dear sir, I am a silencer And if you're a man not made of wood When I flip my hips, I'll quiet you for good Let me brush your lips and crush your lips and nicely hush your lips Dear sir, I am a silencer Dear sir, don't stir, don't move, relax Loosen your tie Turn out the light Take of your shoes Don't fight Lean back Relax, relax, relax, relax, relax Dear Sir!

What do machines sing of? And when will they make an Elvis DSP Plugin?

What do machines sing of? Here is a project by artist Martin Backes that features a sinewave running on a machine. The machine appears to be singing, and performing 90s hits from the likes of Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. This project is a very long way from my own personal future vison of having powerful DSP plugins that just give you a preset for say Elvis, or Frank Sinatra. V/Vm dreamed of adding a preferred vocalist like an instrument to any song. I am sure I am not alone, having the power to add any top 100 artist and  apply, just as you can select a violin instrument, is really something to open and experiement with. Here the simplicity is charming and quaint as our screen vocals and mimics the ballads. Click below to watch the video on Vimeo where I first found it.

My Grandfather George passed away today , death has shown itself to me again. Loss, life, time, maintain. For those who leave us, they are well, it´s those here that are left to remember. I cannot say I knew my Grandfather well, but the last 3 years we have had some time to enjoy. I was lucky to say fair well to him and for him to shake my hand and say goodbye. He thought I was getting on a plane, I thought I was coming back, I told him I would see him soon, and he said ´´see you soon, that will be right´´, in a sarcastic tone. He was right, I wont see him for quite some time.

[1990] LFO - Brainstorm - Pt 2 [3/3]

Without any doubt, we are living in incredibly turbulent and surprising times. Around every corner lurks something else. Today I have had Birthdays, Record Captures (fish), Weddings and Death. It´s impossible to sort them and prioritize. The death of LFO´s main man Mark Bell is indeed a blow, I remember meeting Mark back stage at here in Madrid, it was a big show, Bjork was also hovering around, since it was her gig, Mark introduced me too Bjork with such a big up, it was hard to take in. I remember his gusto, energy and enthusiasm towards previous works I´d been involved with at V/Vm. He told me that day, he had just been listening to one of our tracks, and encouraged Bjork to do the same, saying something like, ´´this is the guy that made that track I was just playing´´, Bjork was not impressed. Mark was a great man, fantastic energy, the track above he never made, but I always thought he had. I knew this was our LFO guys that had brought us the LFO Leeds Warehouse track. It´s har

I love Rhiannon Giddens I have to admit. Her work with Carolina Chocolate Drops was just so inspired.

Bela Tarr, Damnation - song Kész az egész / Over and done

My man James Leyland Kirby just sent me a link to this Hungarian piece from Bela Tarr. When you watch, you have to think about human sensibility, dignity, people real people, it looks like someone is on the edge, thinking about a horrible split and a situation gone. James, has for long time, been able to position himself into uneasy spots musically. Rest in unrest, the audio here compliments the broke, gone theme, its defiantly finished, as the words go; ´´It's all over, Over, And there won't be another, it won't be good, ever again, Never more, Maybe never more, It's like a nightmare. Take it or leave it, this is what you're stuck with, what can you do? What would you do, have you been here before? It won't be good Ever again Maybe never more He's got my soul Things are going his way Without him This world is barren With him Life is full and happy Silly Never again Maybe never more It's over All over There's no end No end n

Kwabs - Wrong or Right (Official Video)

I am loving the choreography in this Kwabs here. The dance moves from this crew, compliment so well, the director has captured and blended a great international London centric cocktail, very much of now. Kwabs, have been on my playlist these last few months, check it!

Frank De Wulf - The heat of the moment (1990)

Hang on to it, just 20 views on Youtube today this song has, almost 20 years have passed and at least 12 since I last heard this, a certain Mr Acid reminding me of this today. I was hoping to squeeze, and do as Frank does here in San Sebastian this weekend, but the camino has taken me physically to another place. Hanging on to it. !!

Frankie Knuckles - Tears

Real sad to wake up this morning and hear about Frankie Knuckles, in honor of the great man, for his inspiration and moving House Music, I played and listened in absolute silence to Your Love and Tears.  I have met many legends in my time, and spoken with inspirational creators, I never met Frankie, but his music met me! R.I.P. ....and later this day, I was checking into Frankie, and spent all or as much of the day listening to his mix´s and music. I was amazed to find no lyrics for his sexual classic - Baby Wants to Ride, so here in rememberance of Frankie Knuckles, you have the lyrics.....It´s the least I can do, on this day, for someone who had such an impact on me as a youngster. . Frankie Knuckles, - Baby Wants to Ride, (Original Club Mix) 8.37 Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the lord my soul to keep and if I die before I wake I pray the lord my soul to take. Jamie it´s time to tell my people the truth. It´s time to tell them the revelation of my second coming hav

Andrew Read & Anthony Child - Guitar Treatment Pt. 7

Feels like a long time ago, listening to this, and thinking about the time when this record was sent to me, as I was sharing vinyl and had my music on one side. Always a strong release, a timeless cracker, time keeps on moving, as we always knew, my time don't stick, but the music we made and shared back then, was sometimes sticky!

Aardvarck - 1990

Sounding incredibly retro, lush pads not distant (in melody) to Octave One - I believe. Loving the full sythn and percussoin, reminding me of how good they were back in 1990, almost an R&S classic.  Great work.

James Leyland Kirby on Apollo Records - Soon

Nice to start the new year in a new space. My sparing partner James Leyland Kirby is doing just so, by spreading audio light, onto the Apollo Record Label, the quieter sister label of R & S Records. It´s impossible to say, how important both these labels were to us at V/Vm Test Records back in the day, the influence of those advanced Belgium classics, and our man Acid Alan drove, drives and has driven, deep into our Mancunian souls. Wonderful news, at the start of the year, completing a voyage that started a long time ago. Keep an eye out for the release and follow the link for more!! http://www.junodownload.com/plus/2014/01/07/leyland-kirby-surfaces-on-apollo/
