Easter is a time of celebration and reflection

Easter could be a time to remember many things. If your like me, you may wish to reflect on any future resurrection of self or what new life may bring.

Here is my Easter selection of records made ready to be enjoyed during these days of deliberation, I hope they inspire.

The Sun worshippers Speak Again · The Amplified Bible Of Heavenly Grooves

So nice to just listen to this recording and wonder at where they are now, and how things worked of for them. The Amplified Bible of Heavenly Grooves is a captivating and unique album that combines elements of soul, funk, and gospel music. Released in 2007 on Trunk Records, the album is a testament to the power of music to uplift and inspire. It is a celebration of life and renewal, and its fusion of different genres and influences creates a truly unique and uplifting listening experience. A must-listen for fans of those who are getting deep and deeper into sin.

Taco - Super physical Resurrection

This maybe a lesser-known song from the 1980s but it has a surprisingly strong connection to Easter. I also love this video, it's just wrong! The song's lyrics speak of a spiritual resurrection that transcends physical death and transforms the soul. The melody is awesome, tough haunting and ethereal. The song has a sense of mystery and awe that echoes the wonder of being born in a new dimension. Despite its obscurity, "Super physical Resurrection" is a thought-provoking and meditative piece of music that invites listeners to contemplate the deeper meaning of the holiday.

Ramsey Lewis - Wade in the water

Ramsey Lewis' 'Wade in the Water' is a gospel-infused classic that captures the spirit of Easter. "Wade in the Water" is a powerful spiritual that has been embraced by the African American church for generations. The song's lyrics speak of crossing over to a new life and leaving behind the struggles and sorrows of the past. This theme of transformation and rebirth is central to the Easter story, making "Wade in the Water" a fitting song to celebrate the season. Its joyful and uplifting message reminds us that with faith and perseverance, we can rise above our trials and emerge stronger on the other side.

John Keating's - Jesus Christ Superstar - Space Experience

Another fascinating interpretation of the iconic rock opera. Released in 1972, the album features orchestral and electronic arrangements that transform the original songs into a futuristic and otherworldly experience.

One standout track is "Studio 2 Stereo," which showcases Keating's innovative use of sound effects and synthesizers. The song's ethereal and otherworldly quality is reminiscent of the Easter story, with its themes of resurrection and transformation.

Overall, "Jesus Christ Superstar - Space Experience" is a must-listen for fans and a track we used to play many years ago on radio as well as at the various nights we ran in Manchester. The album's blend of traditional and futuristic elements makes it a unique and engaging listening experience that is sure to captivate and inspire.

Miles Davis - Solea from Sketches of Spain arranged by Gil Evans

I have to mention Sketches of Spain's 'Solea' by Miles Davis this whole album is a tribute to Spain as Miles plays a perfect lament for Easter. Semana Santa precessions take over Spain during Easter. The album is tinged and haunting with melody's that evoke the solemnity of the season.

Leafcutter John - Resurrection Album.

My old friend Leafcutter John's "Resurrection" album is a mesmerizing and unique listening experience. The album features a fusion of electronic and acoustic sounds that creates an otherworldly and haunting atmosphere. You can expect experimental soundscapes push the boundaries of what we think of as music. Overall, "Resurrection" is a remarkable achievement rising for seeds already sown.

1,000 Tons of Megaton - ska instrumental by Jamaican saxophonist Roland Alphonso

The song was originally released in 1966, during the height of the Cold War and the arms race between the US and the Soviet Union. The song's title references the destructive power of nuclear weapons, which had become a major concern for people around the world.

Interestingly, the B-side of the single is titled "Musical Resurrection," which has a more positive and uplifting message. The song's upbeat rhythm and catchy melody suggest that music has the power to bring people together and transcend the divisions of politics and ideology. In this sense, "1,000 Tons of Megaton" and "Musical Resurrection" are a fascinating contrast of dark and light, destruction and renewal, and a reflection of the tumultuous times in which they were created.

In conclusion, these funky, cosmic, pop, psychedelic records show that music can be a powerful way to explore and celebrate themes of resurrection and new life. Whether you're looking for soulful gospel tunes, playful ska, pop, or classical Easter un-standards, there's something on this list for you all.
